Hatchery Box Review March 2014 – Gourmet Subscription Box

I recently got the opportunity to try out the Hatchery Tasting Box! First, can we just admire how everything was beautifully wrapped? It was like getting 6 little presents!
Box: Hatchery Box is a monthly delivery of ingredients and condiments, curated to help you discover flavors you wouldn’t have otherwise.
Price: $20/month. (Free S/H)
Contents: 5-6 selected artisan ingredients.

The information card, complete with profiles on the companies (which I love, especially for small businesses!), and even recipes!

Potlicket Strawberry Chipotle Jam (Value $1.75):
Again, spicy. *Sigh*. Was this box like spicy themed? lol

Big Island Bees Organic Honey (Value $1):
This honey is crystallized, and although super yummy, I’m not sure what to do with it lol. Since it’s crystallized, it makes me feel like I’m just eating straight sugar. Any ideas? We also got some super cute spoons.

Calivirgin Jalepeno Garlic Oil (Value $4.75):
This was very good and flavorful, but I don’t like spicy things 🙁 It wasn’t crazy spicy, but
La Fundidora Salsa Fuego (Value $2):
I don’t really eat salsa, but my family does! We just bought some tortilla chips too, so we’re good.

Ole Man’s Spice Rub & Seasoning (Value $1):
I really want to buy some ribs and rub this on!
Causey’s BBQ Sauce ‘Sweet ‘N Smoky’ (Value $2):
Again, perfect for ribs or some BBQ chicken!
Final Thoughts: This was my first time trying out Hatchery, and I have to admit it was a really fun box to delve into. I liked discovering all these interesting condiments, and although a lot were spicy (not my cup of tea), I think it’s really useful and a great way to try out new flavors. (But I honestly think it shouldn’t have been a bunch of spicy items, am I the only non-spicy lover here?) I calculated the value to be around $14, which I think is okay because the items are from a bunch of smaller, artisan companies. If you are looking for ways to spice up your meals (figuratively and literally), I’d definitely recommend this box!

This looks like so much fun! I'm so glad BBQ weather is here. I've had my fill of winter. Maybe you could use the crystalized honey in a cocktail?
